Through IANGEL’s innovative BRIDGE project, we meet monthly with women lawyers inside Afghanistan, to provide a vital BRIDGE of connection, solidarity, and support. At the start of 2025, we received this stirring new year’s wish from our BRIDGE project manager, including holding the Taliban accountable in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and advocating for inclusion of gender apartheid as a crime against humanity.
We share these wishes with the women and girls of Afghanistan, and IANGEL is currently working with a talented team pro bono lawyers to bolster international advocacy to help make these wishes come true. And we were heartened by the news of January 23, 2025, that the ICC Prosecutor has now applied for arrest warrants against the two key Taliban leaders, Haibatullah Akhundzada and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, for their crimes of persecution of Afghan women and girls.
