Each year IANGEL attends the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in order to advocate for and advance our mission of international gender equity and justice. This year, the event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus and our care and concern goes out to those most affected.

Though we are disappointed to not meet and work with our colleagues and advocates from around the world this coming week, we are also encouraged and inspired by this extraordinary feminist speech given by the Secretary-General António Guterres last week.

“In the Odyssey, written three thousand years ago, Homer describes Telemachus telling his mother, Penelope, to be quiet and to leave the talking to men. Unfortunately, Telemachus would not be out of place in some of my meetings today.”

– U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres
