To reflect on the third anniversary of the Taliban retaking control of Afghanistan, Parsi (a pseudonym), one of the underground teachers and advocates that IANGEL works closely with, took to the streets in protest. She wrote:

“On the eve of the three-year anniversary of the Taliban terrorist group coming to power, we painted our message on the walls in the heart of Kabul in protest—we demand that women are free by writing ‘Free Afghan women‘.

Once again, we are asking the United Nations and the international community to free the women of Afghanistan from being held hostage by the Taliban. The Taliban use the presence of women as a political tool to achieve their goals, and the international community has left Afghan women alone through their shameful silence.

These past three years, the Taliban, in addition to bans on education, study and work, have also banned women from other social fields, including participation in public life, travel, recreation, driving and sports.

August 15th is the black day of Afghanistan. It has been three years that the women of Afghanistan under the rule of a terrorist group called Taliban have been deprived of their human rights. But we Afghan women stand up against the demands of these oppressors. We speak out loudly against violence, discrimination, and the Taliban.”

Join us in their resistance. Support brave teachers like Parsi.
