Protecting Survivors During COVID-19
COVID-19 has heightened the prevalence of what’s being called the shadow pandemic, gender-based violence (GBV). Survivors of GBV need uninterrupted and even expanded access to legal rights and protections right now. That’s why IANGEL is developing a new initiative focused on addressing COVID-specific impacts on survivors and how as a community we can step up to meet these heightened needs.
We’re currently working to launch a new training next month focused on trauma-informed legal representation and the impacts of COVID-19 on domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking survivors. MCLE credit will be available for this webinar training.
Our partners in this effort are:
Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic
Queens Bench Bar Association
Dr. Gena Castro Rodriguez PsyD, Chief of Victim Services,
San Francisco District Attorney’s Office
Through our networks and knowledge,
we can interrupt the isolation of violence.
IANGEL is also urging the U.S. Government to take all available measures to ensure that preventing, mitigating, and responding to gender-based violence is a priority in all global COVID-19 responses. As a member of the Coalition to End Violence Against Women and Girls, IANGEL has endorsed this issue brief and set of recommendations for Congress and US Agencies regarding COVID-19 and GBV globally.
