While 2020 has been a year of unimaginable change, IANGEL has worked tirelessly to continue making strides for gender equity. Our last 6 months have been very busy, as seen in our 2020 advocacy work.
Support for the Global Health, Empowerment and Rights (HER) Act is key to IANGEL’s vision of removing legal and cultural barriers to the full and equal participation of women in society. Under the Global Gag Rule, foreign NGOs cannot receive funding from the United States if they use their own funds to provide, refer, counsel or advocate for abortion in their own country. And countries already hard hit with HIV, AIDs, and tuberculosis will have an even harder time fighting this global pandemic.
In addition to health care advocacy, IANGEL believes equitable access to job opportunities is a human right. To ensure such access, we must institute affirmative action in public education, jobs, and contracting. This is why IANGEL strongly supports the passage of CA Prop 16.
While the IANGEL team continues to work from home, we want to ensure that this moment becomes a movement for greater change and strides toward gender equity.
This year is not over, and we have so much more to do.
